Attempted abduction reported outside Sul Ross Middle School

Father: 'My daughter ran home crying'

SAN ANTONIO – Parents are being sent letters from Deonna Dean, principal at Sul Ross Middle School, describing an incident in which an 8th grader on her way to school was confronted by a carload of men in their twenties, at the intersection of Viva Max and Callaghan Road.

"One of the men yelled obscenities and was verbally aggressive towards the student," Dean said.

The 13-year-old girl's father said he did not want to be identified for his daughter's sake, but talked about how she ran home crying soon after her short walk to school.

"How can you prepare for something like this? Your child comes home to tell you, ‘I was almost abducted,'" he said.

The student's father said his daughter could only describe the passenger in the back seat of a small black vehicle as wearing a white shirt and a red cap.

"He was cursing her out and telling her that they were going to get her, force her in the car," the father said.

He also said what his child was told was sexual in nature.

"They were waiting to intercept her," he said. "They were going to jump out and put her in the car and take her."

He said maintenance workers at a nearby apartment complex who saw what happened called 911.

"SAPD responded within five minutes, ten minutes. They were all over the place," he said.

However, no arrests have been made as of yet.

The father said he also reported the incident to NISD police.

As a precaution before and after school, Pascual Gonzalez, NISD spokesman, said the school also may consider posting additional staff, along with campus police already on site.

To report suspicious activity, Gonzalez said he urges students and parents to call the Northside Safeline, 210-397-7233, or they can now text safe@nisd.net.

"What we've learned is that kids don't really talk on the phone anymore, but they sure do text," Gonzalez said.

Both are available 24 hours a day and any information relayed is anonymous.
