Students at Alamo Colleges' Northwest Vista campus are on alert after a student was mugged at knifepoint there on Tuesday.
It happened in the middle of the afternoon in a parking lot that's usually packed.
With heavy foot traffic, lots of cars and broad daylight, students generally feel safe on campus, but Tuesday's crime has them thinking twice.
"I've never seen any crime or anything happen here, and to know that someone was actually put at knife-point (and had their) life threatened in this parking lot where I go to school, that's a bit concerning," student Esteban Hernandez said.
The school put out an electronic alert saying a student was in parking lot 4 when two men, both believed to be in their 40s, came up to him with a knife.
They didn't hurt him, the school said, but they forced him to take them to an ATM and withdraw cash.
"For that to happen in broad daylight is kind of scary," student Heather Haskins said.
No matter what time of day, the school has a few safety suggestions, like using the buddy system or even calling a campus police officer to be an escort.
"I don't feel threatened at all anywhere here, so I would never think to get a police escort, because I would feel like it's unnecessary here," Hernandez said.
Most students said they'll just keep a lookout.
"I don't think I'll ask for an escort, because I usually come during the day, but I will definitely be more aware of my surroundings, especially since that happened during the day, so it could happen at any time," Haskins said.
