Fatal stabbing victims identified; Suspect charged

SAPD: Corey Hiller stabbed 2 women, 1 boy; run over while fleeing police

San Antonio Police have charged a man with capital murder in connection with the stabbing deaths of two women.

Investigators say Corey Hiller, 36, fatally stabbed 39-year-old Rhonda Hammonds and 48-year-old Casey Sweetwood Thursday morning in the 4500 block of Emil on the East Side.

Police say Hammonds' 11-year-old son (pictured below) was also stabbed and remained in critical condition Friday morning.

Police say Hiller fled the scene and was spotted 8 hours later near Interstate 35 and Walters.

Officers responded to a call for a suspicious person in the area and when they saw Hiller, he began to run.

"He was running like somebody was chasing him, but there was no one behind him," said a witness. "That's what caught my eye. I thought maybe he stole something or somebody was running after him."

Police say Hiller ran up an embankment, made an obscene gesture towards an officer, threw a knife in their direction and then was struck by a cement truck.

Hiller was taken by ambulance to San Antonio Military Medical Center with two broken legs and is expected to survive.

Police have not released a motive for the stabbings, but believe Hiller was romatically involved with Hammonds.
