Fares will get higher as the traveling date gets closer. Customers are encouraged to book early to secure $1 fares.

Service will begin June 19, but customers were able to begin booking Thursday. For more information, visit www.megabus.com.

"Megabus.com has rapidly become the travel option of choice for millions of people and today we're excited to bring our unique travel option to Texas and the southern United States," said Dale Moser, president and COO of megabus.com. "As Americans continue to look for ways to stretch their income, we look forward to providing safe, convenient and affordable travel to the millions of residents in the South."

Megabus.com brought one of its giant double-decker buses to San Antonio Thursday for a preview at the Broadway Parking lot, located at Broadway and 4th Street.  It offers Wi-Fi and power outlets and has plenty of windows.

While competing with other bus companies, Megabus.com's real goal is to get travelers to change their mode of travel to its green buses.

"We know that a passenger on one of our vehicles can travel up to 500 miles on one gallon of diesel, as opposed to, say, 30 or 35 if they're going by car," said Bryony Chamberlain, vice president of operations for Megabus.com.

"We obviously welcome Megabus," said Andrés Muñoz, VP of Marketing & Communications, San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau. "We think it's a great option for travelers, and it's only going to help San Antonio and its economy."
