SAN ANTONIO – Friends and family of Brent Lowak hosted a fundraiser Thursday night to help cover the mounting medical bills for the Bulverde man who was injured in the Colorado movie theater shooting last month.

It's been nearly a month since the deadly shooting rampage that injured Lowak and the claimed the life of his friend Jessica Ghawi.

"He's walking slowly but surely. Not very far, not very fast but he is determined to make a full recovery," said Meg Bodin, a friend of Lowak.

Myron's Steakhouse hosted the happy hour fundraiser for Lowak which included a silent auction and putting contest.

Lowak was shot by a gunman who opened fire on the crowded theater where the new Batman movie was playing.

Bodin said Lowak continues to recover from his injuries but he still needs help with his medical expenses.

"The hospitals in Colorado did waive his care which was extensive so we're extremely grateful for that," Bodin said. "He does have a long road to recovery so those finances are going to be needed to support that recovery because he did not have medical insurance so he's going to need that financial support."

Next Friday, August 24, there will be a charity golf tournament benefiting Lowak. It will be held at the Quarry Golf Club with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

For more information on the golf tournament contact Stayci Runnels with Leader Board Events at 210-531-6052.
