Pregnant woman shot in back; Bullet barely misses unborn baby

Suspect sought in shooting on 8700 block of Cinammon Creek

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A pregnant woman who was shot in the back has survived and is still expecting her baby in a few weeks.

The shooting happened on August 5 at the 8700 block of Cinnamon Creek.

Viola McMichael said her niece, 22, was 8 months pregnant, when a man tried to rob her and then shot her in the back. It happened at the Riverstone Apartment Complex in the Medical Center.

"We heard that she was in the hospital," said McMichael. "And, of course, we all know that she is pregnant and she was due September 5th."

McMichael said her niece was walking home when a man asked her for money.

"After he passed her up, he asked her for her money," McMichael said. "She saw the gun. So, she took off running and so that coward shot her in the back. He shot her in the back and it came out the front. Thank God it missed the baby."

McMichael said her niece kept running and that she didn't even realize she was shot until she got home and saw blood.

The bullet had gone through her side, inches from the baby.

"She's petite," said McMichael. "You could already see her stomach. He knew she was pregnant. He didn't care. So, somebody has to put a stop to it, to him."

Police are describing the attacker as 16 to 20-years-old, about 5'10'' inches tall and about 150 pounds.

McMichael said she hopes someone comes forward.

"I know somebody saw something," McMichael said. "We're hoping the public can bring this guy to justice."

If you have any information, you are asked to call the Robbery Unit at 210-207-0300 or Crimestoppers at 210-224-STOP.
