San Antonio police arrest suspected West Side serial rapist

Police: Detectives caught suspect in the act in parking lot at 18th, Guadalupe streets

SAN ANTONIO – A man suspected of raping as many as four women on the West Side and downtown San Antonio area recently was arrested late Sunday night on 18th and Guadalupe streets.

Police said they caught the 32-year-old man in the act. They said he was in the process of sexually assaulting a woman in a parking lot when officers drove up.

Detectives said someone had called police to the area after 10 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a man and woman in the back seat of a car, both nude from the waist down, police said.

According to detectives, the woman appeared to have been beaten and was screaming for help.

The man was arrested at the scene. Detectives spent most of the night questioning him, and they said they developed information linking him to three other recent rapes.

Police said all of the other rapes happened within the past month in their central patrol division. No other details were immediately available about those cases.
