Mom claims excessive force used in son's arrest

Rosemary Lopez: Son, Felix Christopher Lopez, 24, beaten following police chase, arrest

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio woman says that her son was beaten unnecessarily last week after his arrest following a police chase.

Rosemary Lopez, 46, said that her son, Felix Christopher Lopez, 24, was beaten and kicked as police took him into custody.

Lopez had led police on a chase for several miles before he stopped at his mother's Northeast side home Wednesday night, investigators said. He ran through the house and into a neighbor's backyard where police arrested him.

"I yelled, 'What did you do to my son? What have y'all done?'" Lopez said.

She said she saw her son bleeding as he was led to a patrol car.

According to police, yelling is not all that Rosemary Lopez did that night.

"There were approximately five individuals at the house that started to interfere with the officers, including jumping on the officers and spitting on the officers," said San Antonio police spokesman Officer Matt Porter.

Lopez and two others were taken into custody for interfering with officers. They were released on bond the following day.

Felix Christopher Lopez was arrested on outstanding warrants and for possession of marijuana charges. He remains jailed.

Lopez said she fears her son is not getting proper medical attention in jail.

She said she plans to take her case to the police department's Internal Affairs Department.

"This case will be reviewed," Porter said. "But it doesn't look like excessive force was used."
