SAN ANTONIO – A man was killed Thursday night after a head-on collision on Highway 281 just south of Spring Branch Road in Comal County.
The two-car crash happened around 8:30 p.m. about 33 miles north of San Antonio.
Investigators said the driver of a Ford Windstar van was headed northbound when he veered into oncoming traffic.
A woman driving a Ford Expedition in the southbound lane tried to swerve to miss the driver, but was unable to due to a guardrail.
The man died at the scene. The woman was flown to University Hospital where authorities said she was in critical condition.
Traffic in both directions on Highway 281 was at a standstill for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene.
Investigators believe alcohol may have played a role in the accident.
