SAN ANTONIO – It has been exactly two years since a father was shot and killed in front of his wife and two young daughters, and the family still doesn't know who is responsible for the crime.
Christina Rivera and her husband Jose Reyes, 34, were driving to the grocery store to pick up some snacks and drinks for their kids, when a car pulled next to them on Grissom Road near Misty Way and opened fire.
"They just started shooting and I really didn't get to see nothing because it just happened so quick," Rivera said.
Reyes was shot six times, Rivera was hit twice. Their two young girls were not injured but they saw their dad die.
"It's still hard for my daughters especially the youngest," Rivera said. "She tells me, 'mom, my dad is in the hospital and he's going to come home one day,' it's really hard."
Wednesday night Rivera and her daughters were joined by family members at the spot where Reyes took his last breath. Two years later they still don't know who fired the fatal shots or why they were targeted.
"I think they were looking for someone else, cause he didn't have any enemies. We kept to ourselves," Rivera said.
Initially the family offered $10,000 of their own money on top of the $5,000 offered by Crime Stoppers for information leading to the arrest of the killer. This year they're adding another $5,000, bringing the total reward money to $20,000.
Reyes' mother Rosa Lopez, said her family has been pulling together the money to increase the reward. The family hopes $20,000 will be enough to convince someone to finally break their silence.
"That's like our Christmas, putting it together for him to know," Lopez said. "That would be the best present we could have, to know why."
Rivera said she needs to know who killed her husband so he can rest in peace.
"This is the last thing that we need just so we can let him rest already," Rivera said. 'If you know please say something because my kids need to know why."
