Thompson is accused taking district property, including flooring and two patio shades.

According to the statement, a district employee reported the thefts to Northeast ISD police in October and an investigation began immediately. The items were later returned.

The district's investigation revealed that as part of a 2010 construction improvement project at Madison High School, rubber tile was installed in the gym. Due to a contractor error, it had to be removed.

The district reports that Thompson said he believed he had permission to take approximately 700 square feet of that tile.

Executive Director of School Administration Joe Reasons has been named as interim principal.
