College stabbings suspect reported missing in 2011

Dylan Quick found at Lone Star College Cy-Fair campus after reported missing

HOUSTON – Dylan Quick, the suspect, in the Lone Star College stabbings, was the subject of a missing persons report in January 2011, Local 2 Investigates has learned.

"There were indications we had to find him real quick," Frank Black, with Texas EquuSearch said.

EquuSearch never mobilized a search party surrounded around Quick's brief disappearance, but dedicate time and resources trying to locate the then 18-year-old.

According to Houston Police Department report, Quick disappeared from his workplace in early January 2011 and was missing at least three days.

"He was upset when he left work, we're not quite sure what it was about," Black said.

Local 2 Investigates learned through another source that Quick had been working at Brookstone, a technology store, at Memorial City Mall. A current employee at the store verified that Quick had been a part-time employee.

Quick sent a text message to his mother indicating that he planned to commit suicide, according to the 2011 police report.

Quick was later found at Lone Star College's Cy-Fair campus, the very same place where more than a dozen people were injured Wednesday.

"A security guard at Lone Star College felt sorry for him. One brought him clothing and food. One brought him a tent to camp out in," Black said.

The security guards were not immediately aware that the teen student was officially listed as missing. When they made that discovery a few days later they indicated to authorities that they had located Quick.

It is unclear what Quick was doing on campus while he was "camping out" in January 2011.

He did not have food, money, a cellphone or transportation when he left Memorial City Mall. He was reunited with his family without fanfare and without charges filed, Black said.
