Mountain lion sighted in North Bexar County

Sighting happened in Bulverde Village subdivision

SAN ANTONIO – A notice sent out by the Bulverde Village Property Owners association Wednesday urged homeowners to be on the lookout for a mountain lion, after a sighting was reported to authorities recently.

The alert did not specify when the mountain lion was spotted, but said association officials had contacted state wildlife authorities about the incident.

Officials were told trapping was not an option, and that it wasn't known if the mountain lion lived in the area or was just passing through.

Still, residents were warned to not go out too early or stay out too late, to not walk anywhere alone, and to keep pets on a leash on all times.

"I'm a little bit fearful," said Sandy Mathis, who lives nearby and has two small children. "But at the same time, as long as I'm outside in the daytime surrounded by other people, I feel pretty safe."

Apparently others did too on Wednesday, as the recreation center was full of kids playing basketball and using the jungle gym.

"I've lived here for four years and haven't had to deal with this before, but we're not too worried," said Mathis.

This is the third mountain lion sighting in the last several weeks, with the first two coming near the Dominion neighborhood several weeks ago.
