A Leon Valley resident is accused of using a stick to hit her stepdaughter on the feet more than 100 times. Virginia McKinley, 25, has been charged with injury to a child.
An arrest warrant affidavit stated that Child Protective Services began investigating the case on Sept. 23 after the agency received an anonymous tip about bruising on the child's feet.
The affidavit stated the girl's father at first told investigators that he was to blame and had beaten his daughter for stealing food at school.
However, after the girl was taken into protective custody, she pointed the finger at McKinley, the affidavit stated.
The child said McKinley became angry with her for stealing food and not doing her homework.
At one point, she said, her stepmother locked her in a closet, the affidavit stated. Later, she said McKinley hit her on both feet with a stick, a total of 106 times, the affidavit stated.
The girl told police she knew the exact number of strikes because McKinley had counted them and told her, the affidavit stated.
McKinley was arrested Tuesday. The affidavit did not mention the age of the girl.
