San Antonio police said Hernandez was at a VIA bus stop with her baby at 3 p.m. in the 1100 block of Mission Road, when she got into an argument with Eduardo Reyes, her 17-year-old ex-boyfriend. Reyes then stabbed her multiple times, police said.

"Another witness at the scene tried to intervene and both he and the female victim were stabbed in the assault," said Sgt. Trey Roussel with SAPD. "The female victim was at the bus stop with her child and was in fact holding the child while she was being attacked."

According to Hernandez' family, Reyes is also the child's father.

The baby was not injured during the altercation and was placed under the care of family. Witnesses saw what was happening and ran toward the commotion and chased Reyes off.

Other witnesses said Reyes also threatened them with the knife.

Reyes fled several blocks from the scene until police caught up with him on Roosevelt Avenue and took him into custody.

Hernandez was taken to University Hospital in critical condition and died a few hours later.

The other victim, Robert Ortiz, 15, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Reyes was charged with murder, endangering a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was being held in the Bexar County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $400,000.
