SAN ANTONIO – Just days away from joy and smiles being spread all over San Antonio thanks to Elf Louise.
On Tuesday, volunteers were going through all the boxes and checking them twice, making sure all the little boys and girls were going to receive the best gift ever.
"It's a lot of work getting up to this point when we can see them all wrapped up, all ready to go, and when it's looking as good as this, I feel really good about it," said Bill Harrison, executive director of Elf Louise.
About 4,500 volunteers have helped to make this a special Christmas for kids.
"We really get a good feeling when we finish because we can see the accomplishment," said Brad Hardey, with Peloton Commercial Real Estate.
Lisa Vera, with the Terraces at Haven for Hope, stopped by to pick up packages for some 25 families at the residence.
"(It's their) first year, the first time they are on their own and so a lot of the families are struggling this time of year," Vera said.
Elf Louise will be hitting neighborhoods starting this weekend. There are 461 routs and will be visiting a little more than 6,400 families and delivering toys to 18,000 children.
"This is the greatest time, " Harrison said. "(There's going to be) a lot of blessings going to these children who are not expecting anything for Christmas."
