Medina Lake rising after heavy rains

One area that is soaking up all the recent heavy rains is Medina Lake. Those who live there say it's a welcome sight.

The view from Rick Garcia's home is encouraging. He said he got word from his neighbor that six inches of rain had fallen over the past few days.

"I'm excited about that ... because it's been over a year since this part of the lake has even seen water," he said.

In total, Medina Lake is up around five feet, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, and showing a visible rise, especially near the dam.

It's a sight that many have been waiting to see.

For Garcia, he said he expects a bigger rise in coming days.

"When that rain is here, it takes about three days and that's why the water is swelling here, to run down from Bandera to come over here," he said.

At last check, the lake level was at 977.5 feet.
