Garden Ridge stores getting new look, new name

Home décor stores changing name to At Home

SAN ANTONIO – It's out with the orange and in with the blue. Garden Ridge is changing its name to At Home as the company rebrands its 71 stores with a new look.

Inside the location in Live Oak on Loop 1604 East, it's still a big box. However, the inventory and image are getting a tweak. You can still find some pottery, but you won't find candy or medical scrubs.

"We've kind of separated from apparel because it doesn't have anything to do with home décor," said store manager Joseph Ortiz. "We found our niche is home décor."

And there is lots of it from chairs, rugs, artwork and much more.

Sherry Reiser, an avid Garden Ridge shopper, was helping her daughter, Darcy, choose items for a room makeover.

"I like how everything is so organized," she said. "That, for me, makes it easier to shop."

Garden Ridge  was founded in 1979 just north of San Antonio. After some bumpy times that included a 2004 bankruptcy, followed by the Recession, the current owners, AEA investors bought the company in 2011.

Now, the company is investing $20 million to rebrand all of its stores and establish a new identity as a home décor superstore. The conversion should be complete by the holiday shopping season.

The company has 71 stores across 21 states and plans to open more than a dozen new stores this year.
