Wednesday night, he announced his departure from the department to be the new head of security detail for CPS Energy at the end of the year.

KSAT learned it's not just a new opportunity for the career law officer, but it's one that literally pays big.
Lisa Lewis, vice president of corporate communications for CPS Energy, said McManus will be a strong addition to their team.
"We felt strongly that we needed a single leader who could focus on both security administration and some of the aspects of dealing with multiple agencies at the local, state and federal level," said Lewis.
It's a job CPS Energy says was created and that Chief McManus, out of a pool of candidates, was best suited for.
McManus has 40 years of experience in law enforcement. Experience that has apparently earned McManus a bigger paycheck.
"His base salary is $205,000 per year and as an executive, he would be eligible for up to a 25 percent incentive payment based on his own performance as well as the company's performance together," said Lewis.
Lewis says the company consolidated a number of departments which included physical and cyber security to create the position.
Once in place, McManus will lead a security team of 90 to 100 employees, including full-time CPS Energy employees as well as contract security officers.
McManus said Wednesday he's thrilled to be able to stay in the city he's fallen in love with.
"Being able to go and work for a great leader like Doyle Beneby and his leadership team, it's something I couldn't pass up," said McManus.
