SAN ANTONIO – Animal Care Services received an extremely overweight Doberman Thursday.
Weighing in at 147 pounds, he is twice the size of an average Doberman, which is usually 65 to 90 pounds, according to Animal Care officials.

ACS says he is mostly immobile and lays in his bed most of the day.
"The first step is identifying when they start to gain so much weight, and that's usually identified by routine vet checks, going to your regular veterinarian (and) having them do a physical exam," Chief Veterinarian Marilyn Gotbeter said. "It's just as bad being overweight as being under weight."
Lone Star Doberman Rescue of Fort Worth took in the dog Friday morning, according to Jennifer Rentfrow, the president of the rescue organization.
She said in an email that he has been named "Bear" and is sweet and loving.
"He is being evaluated now to see his overall health condition, but we do know he can barely get around with his weight," said Rentfrow. "And, all four limbs are quite swollen, and he has something going on with his eyes."
Rentfrow said anyone interested can follow Bear's story on their Facebook page.
