SAN ANTONIO – A 22-year-old man made a short-lived escape from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office and detention center Monday night.
BCSO officials said Adam Novodvorschi used bed sheets to crawl out of a window on the east side of the jail near the railroad tracks around 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Officials said Novodvorschi made it as far as the downtown Greyhound bus station located a little more than a mile away on in the 500 block of N. St. Mary's Street.
"One of our deputies had his photo and was searching the area, showed his photo at a security guard at the Greyhound bus station. She recognized him," said Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Rosanne Hughes.
At that point, no one spotted Novodvorschi, but a short time later the security guard noticed him again.
"She said, 'This is the guy,' They, SAPD, apprehended him, gave him back to us, and he's been rebooked," Hughes said.
The sheriff's office did not go into detail about how Novodvorschi was able to get away, and said the escape was under investigation.
"You know, this is an old jail, so it's something that really needs to be looked at as far as the facilities, and we'll be, that's part of our investigation is looking into all the tactics of how this managed to happen," Hughes said.
Officials said Novodvorschi was initially charged with aggravated robbery, but is now facing a third degree felony for escape from a jail facility. Novodvorschi's bond was set at $50,000.
He had several previous arrests including an arrest for attempted escape. That charge was later dismissed.
