SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio City Council members got their first look at a multi-million dollar expansion proposal for the Alamodome Wednesday.
The nearly $40 million in renovations would further improve the venues flexibility to hold various sports and entertainment events.

"We do a million people a year that come through that building and our plan has always been to maintain it to a high quality level," said Michael Sawaya.
The proposal calls for the addition of two LED video boards, wider concourses on the stadium's east and west sides, an outdoor plaza, and new terrace club. Sawaya said the improvements will improve the stadium experience for fans and help the dome compete with some of the country's newer venues.
"We're prioritizing the things that have the most impact on the fan experience," Sawaya said. "We're looking at things that are expanded concessions, things that make the experience overall good."
Sawaya will present the proposal to NCAA officials on Sept. 9 as part of the city's pitch to host a Final Four between 2018-2020.
As Sawaya unveiled the long-term improvements, crews were busy putting the finishing touches on the Alamodome for UTSA's home opener Thursday. Alamodome General Manager Nick Langella said the star of the night might be the field itself.
"We spent some money on this field and we're real pleased with the way it came out," said Langella. "It's very bright and popping. We did some things different on the design and the trim is really popping. "Wait until you see it with the lights on it looks really fantastic."
All total, Sawaya said the changes to the 21-year-old venue will go a long way in creating a home-field economic advantage for the city.
"We have so much to offer and we're one of the best destinations for tourism in the country," he said.
