SAN ANTONIO – The sister of stalking suspect Rene Galvan said the allegations against him seem out of character.
She described the 45-year-old as a caring father, brother and uncle.
Rose Galvan said her older brother is a former school teacher, and ironically, holds a degree in criminal justice.
"This is a shock to me. This is a shock to all of us because as far as we know, he's a good guy," she said outside the Northwest Side home they both share with their parents. "He's a very caring individual, very soft-spoken, never has been in trouble before, honestly."
Rene Galvan is facing a charge of stalking following his early Monday morning arrest.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, a 35-year-old woman called San Antonio police on at least two occasions within the past month, telling them that he had been following her home and showing up at the supermarkets where she shopped.
In a police report from a Sept. 7 incident, the woman told police that she and Rene Galvan both had worked for the Edgewood Independent School District at the same time nearly a decade ago. She said he had tried to date her at one time, but she turned him down, the report stated.
Since then, she said, Galvan has been stalking her off and on for the past nine years, the report stated.
On one occasion last month, she reported that he had followed her home from a store on Guilbeau Road.
About three weeks ago, the woman said she noticed Galvan's car outside an HEB store near Loop 1604 and Bandera Road, then saw him park in the exact spot that she had just left, the report stated.
The woman told police she suspected that he might be tracking her electronically.
The police report stated that officers examined her truck and did find a GPS tracking system attached to it under the tailgate.
Detectives later questioned Galvan and said he admitted he put it there about a year ago, the affidavit stated.
The suspect also told police that he had been watching the woman since 2007 to "make sure she's OK," the affidavit stated.
"I think that's crazy," said his sister, Rose Galvan. "However, as far as being a menace to society or a threat to anyone violently, no way."
The alleged victim is not convinced, though, and told investigators she fears for her safety.
