SAN ANTONIO – It's not the same Liberty Bar building that most people remember standing at the corner of Josephine and Avenue A.
While the building itself is still there, there now appears to be less of its trademark lean.
Earlier this year, Pearl developers bought the old Boehler House, which was once home to the Liberty Bar.
Since then, developers have boarded up the building to make it safer and are working to stabilize it.
But using cables to stabilize it has also taken the famous lean out of it.
"I'm sure it helps with the stability," said San Antonio resident Anne Stoker. "But as far as the way everybody was used to how it looked, that's how people know it. 'The little bar that's leaning.'"
So far, developers have not finalized any plans as far as what's next for the old building.
"Ken Goldsberry has spent a fortune in the Pearl down here and he should have every right to do what he wants to do with this building," said Rick Shaw. "He's going to keep the same charm in the building, but what he's created down here is incredible."
Pearl developers said once they commit to a design, they'll submit it to the Historic Design and Review Commission.
