SAN ANTONIO – A 24-year-old man was sentenced Tuesday to 99 years in prison after being convicted Friday for the murder of his mother's boyfriend.
According to the Office of Susan D. Reed, Jonathan Guillen shot 44-year-old Ernest Garcia to death at his mother's apartment in the 2300 block of Austin Highway on Dec. 13, 2012.

The defense claimed during the trial that Guillen shot Garcia in self-defense. However, forensic evidence presented during the trial showed that five of the 10 shots were made into Garcia's back after he had fallen limp to the floor. Evidence presented also showed Guillen was the aggressor, approaching Garcia as he fired his weapon.
According to officials, Guillen immediately went on the run after the shooting, moving locations for 13 days until San Antonio police found him hiding at a relative's home.
