SAN ANTONIO – The historic Tower of the Americas building will close to the public for 72 hours beginning Oct. 27 for electrical upgrades.
The iconic structure experienced an electrical power failure in September that, according to tower officials, occurred at joint locations of the main electrical bus duct about 90 feet up the tower. The bus duct feeds electrical service to the tower restaurant.
Temporary repairs have kept the tower open to the public until a permanent repair solution was coordinated.
After the upgrades are completed, the tower will reopen to the public on Thursday, Oct. 30.
