SAPD: Man stabbed to death with Swiss Army knife

SAPD: 22-year-old Hakeem Hampton considered armed, dangerous

SAN ANTONIO – A 22-year-old man wanted in connection with a fatal stabbing that happened Thursday is currently being sought by San Antonio police.

The stabbing happened at 200 N. Pecos La Trinidad.

Police said Hakeem Stroud Hampton and 26-year-old Evan Potts were sitting under the Interstate 35 bridge near Houston Street when they began to argue with each other.

Witnesses told police Potts accused Hampton of stealing something from him, causing Hampton to become offended.

Police said the two then stood up and began to get louder, and then started to physically fight each other. When they started scuffling, witnesses told police Potts and Hampton both stopped all of a sudden.

Witnesses said Potts' back was facing them and when he turned around, they saw him holding his stomach where blood began to cover his shirt, police said.

At that time, Hampton then took off running and ran between the McDonalds and Motel 6 nearby. Witnesses told police they didn't see the weapon used to stab and cut Potts.

Witnesses told police they tried to walk Potts to McDonalds to call police. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said Hampton is considered armed and dangerous. The weapon used in the murder -- a Swiss Army knife -- has not been recovered.

Hampton is known to frequent the downtown area near Travis Park and other locations where homeless people gather, police said.

SAPD described Hampton as a black man who is 20 to 30 years old, is 6 feet tall, weighs 160 pounds with a light build and has black hair and brown eyes. Police said he wore a lime green shirt, light Khaki pants and white and red athletic shoes.

Anyone who may know Hampton's whereabouts is asked to call SAPD Homicide at 207-7635 or Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP.
