Task force captures suspect who shot man in head

Jason Rodriguez, 21, charged with aggravated assault with deadly weapon

SAN ANTONIO – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting outside a South Side bar on Monday night.

Jason Rodriguez, 31, was arrested overnight at his West Side home by members of the U.S. Marshal's Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.

The San Antonio Police Department's homicide detectives had asked for assistance in tracking him down and arresting him, according to Ofc. Douglas Greene, an SAPD spokesman.

Investigators believe Rodriguez shot Santiago Macias, 43, in the head after a dispute inside a bar in the 700 block of SW Military.

Police found Macias in the parking lot. He was transported to University Hospital in critical condition.

However, Greene said it's possible his condition -- and Rodriguez's situation -- could change for the worse.

"It is our understanding that, unfortunately, Mr. Macias' condition is deteriorating," Greene said. "If it comes to the point that he does pass away, then those charges will be upgraded to murder."

As it stands now, Rodriguez is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police did not say how they identified him as a suspect.
