SAN ANTONIO – One day after a grand jury cleared a New York City police officer in the chokehold death of Eric Garner, protests have erupted across the country, including San Antonio.
About 50 people gathered Thursday night at the steps of the courthouse downtown, all wanting justice for Garner, who police said was peddling loose cigarettes when Officer Daniel Pantaleo placed the man in a chokehold.
One protester called Garner's death "racially charged" and feared it could happen again.
"It's a milestone, because you've never seen this before. It's sad that it had to happen, but that means my city isn't going unheard, and that people are here and are willing to fight for justice," said Marcus McNeil.
The grand jury dismissed all potential charges against Pantaleo.
