SAN ANTONIO – Almost a year after a 90-year-old woman was shot and killed in her San Antonio home, police are still searching for the person who pulled the trigger.
On Jan. 2, San Antonio police officers went to 90-year-old Ruth Clay's home, on Como Street, for a welfare check.
"When they got out to the residence, they entered the location and found the victim lying facedown in her bedroom with a gunshot wound," said Officer Misty Floyd, with the San Antonio Police Department.
KSAT-12 worked with San Antonio police, who reenacted the event as they believe it happened. Investigators say the bullet that ultimately killed Clay blasted through her bedroom wall and struck her while she was sitting in her wheelchair in her bedroom.
"We don't know at this time if it was a deliberate act or if it was someone being reckless," Floyd said.
All they do know is that no witnesses have come forward -- and Clay's family is desperate for closure.
"This has got to be a really hard thing for the family to take, and so finding closure for them is ultimately what we're trying to do," Floyd said.
In order to do that, police need the public's help.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the SAPD Homicide Unit at 210-207-7635. Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
