As a two-time cancer survivor, James Griffith is no stranger to curve balls.

James has overcome many health obstacles in his life, but emotional eating isn't one of them.

"At 57 years old, I recognize now that I have an addiction to food, and I'm ready to finally face it head on," he said. "It's gotten so bad that we have to padlock the refrigerator and pantry before going to bed and hide the key."

At 6 feet tall and 280 pounds, James has been diagnosed as borderline diabetic.

Although James uses humor to hide his feelings about his weight, he knows it's no laughing matter.

From avoiding booths at certain restaurants because he can't fit, to wearing baggy clothing to hide his midsection, James is tired of being overweight and is ready to do what it takes to make a drastic change.

James has been an HEB Partner for 12 years and currently works as a regional loss prevention director in San Antonio.

As a psoriatic arthritis sufferer, James hopes to gain nutrition knowledge that will help ease his pain and make a positive change to his eating habits for good.

If he wins the competition, James plans to donate all of his winnings to the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Los Angeles, which he credits for saving his life.
