SAN ANTONIO – Residents living in the 8000 block of Hoovers Bend said they are fed up with the criminal activity in the area.
Residents spoke to KSAT 12 on the condition of anonymity out of fear for their safety.
"It makes me worried about the neighborhood. I don't have kids, but if I did I would be very concerned," said one homeowner.
Residents said for the last several months there have been countless incidents of vandalism, theft and home break-ins.
"They've gone down the street and done everything from paint and markers to Sharpies and spray paint," said another resident. "A lot of the neighbors in the area have put security lights up with motion sensors, but it doesn't deter them."
Hoovers Bend is in the 78250 zip code. According to the city's call for service statistics, there were 264 calls for property crimes in October, 239 in November and 255 in December.
"We call the police, we call law enforcement and all they do is come out here. They don't take fingerprints, they don't take pictures, and it's like they don't care about us."
Hoovers Bend is located in the city's 6th District. Councilman Ray Lopez said his office has not received reports of any chronic issues in the neighborhood but promised to look into the situation immediately. Despite their frustration with police, he asked that residents continue to report any criminal activity they see.
