Ex-Clark teacher arrested on sex charges involving student

Gil Vicinaiz charged with improper relationship between educator, student

SAN ANTONIO – A 30-year-old former male teacher at Clark High School was arrested Friday on suspicion that he had a sexual relationship with a female student.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Gil Vicinaiz was a science club adviser at the school, which is how the two met.

"This was a student that was in his care through his role at the school where he (was) employed and we believe the relationship was sexual in nature," said Bexar County Sheriff spokesman James Keith.

The affidavit states the girl's mother told Northside Independent School District police in December that her daughter admitted to having a sexual relationship with the suspect.

The mother told police she found dozens of text messages between them, including inappropriate images, the affidavit stated.

The girl told her mother the relationship began in 2013, when the teen was 17 years old and the suspect was still a teacher at Clark, the affidavit stated.

"This is extremely distressing. We hold our teachers to a extremely high standard and we expect them to meet that standard. If they can't, we certainly don't want them working at Northside ISD," said Northside ISD spokesman Pascual Gonzalez.

At one point, the girl asked Vicinaiz if she should admit to police about the relationship, the affidavit stated. Vicinaiz told the girl that she should tell police the relationship started on her 18th birthday, the affidavit stated.

"Parent's, it's really, really important that you monitor your children's social media access. It's your responsibility to know what's going on in their lives and when you find out, if you find out something so distressing like this, speak up. The school needs to know and so do the police," Gonzalez said.

Vicinaiz resigned his position in December.

He was charged with improper relationship between educator and student.
