SAPD: Man stole computer, cake from Walmart

Stephen Hamlin, 56, allegedly caught on camera

SAN ANTONIO – A theft suspect identified as Stephen Hamlin, 56, allegedly was caught on camera stealing a computer and cake from a local Walmart store.

According to an arrest affidavit, San Antonio police responded to the business on Feb. 15 and found out that surveillance cameras had captured the crime.

They said the video shows a man pushing a shopping cart around in the store with a box containing a computer in it as well as a cake.

The affidavit stated that at one point, the man can be seen cutting off a security tag from the boxed computer, then pushing the cart out the front door.

A loss prevention worker with Walmart tried to intervene, but the man was able to run to a vehicle and escape, the affidavit stated.

Detectives identified the man in the video as Hamlin, who has prior theft convictions. Hamlin was arrested Thursday on an enhanced charge of theft.
