SAN ANTONIO – A man is on the run after beating another man up and running over him with a truck at a sports bar on the South Side.
Police are now searching for that suspect, who they say faces aggravated assault charges.
Witnesses said what ended in a violent brawl started with a disagreement inside the 210 Sports Cantina and Grill on Southwest Military Drive. Police say just before 2 a.m Friday, a group of friends got into an argument with a 29-year-old man. They were told to take it outside, so they did, but the man by himself was outnumbered.
"They jumped him outside the bar. The victim was lying on the ground, and one of the people got in their vehicle, the black Chevy pickup, and actually ran over the guy," said San Antonio Police Sgt. Edwin Rivera.
The man driving the truck took off. When EMS got to the scene, police said the victim had tire marks across his chest, and was suffering critical injuries.
Investigators said a surveillance camera at the bar that faces out toward the parking lot caught everything on video. They said it looks like the driver did it on purpose.
The bar has not released that surveillance video but Rivera said it shows everything.
"The people involved in the altercation (were) actually ganging up on they guy, beating him up, and you see the victim lying sprawled out on the ground, obviously injured, and the vehicle just running right over the top of him," Rivera said.
As investigators re-watch the video for clues, they're keeping an eye out for a black Chevy pickup with no tailgate.
