Suspect, victim identified in fatal shooting at VIA bus stop

1 suspect arrested, 1 sought in fatal shooting at VIA bus stop

SAN ANTONIO – A man was killed, another was arrested and a third man is sought following a fatal shooting at a VIA bus stop on the West Side Saturday morning.

San Antonio police issued a press release that identified the suspect at-large as 41-year-old Jose B. Rocha. The victim was also identified as Aaron Riedner.

Police said around 10 a.m., Rocha and another man got into a fight with Riedner.

They all got off at a bus stop at Buena Vista and S. Zarzamora and one of the men, believed to be Rocha, shot Riedner in the torso, SAPD officials said.

The two suspects fled and Riedner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said one of the suspects ran from the shooting scene a few blocks down to the intersection of S. Minter and Monterey.

Officers tracked him down, arrested him and transported him to police headquarters.

SAPD's Eagle helicopter was called to help look for Rocha, but he was not immediately located. A murder warrant was then issued for Rocha's arrest.

Police said several people witnessed the shooting and the events that led up to it.

"There were at least six individuals in the bus, there were at least two or three other people here at this auto parts store," said Sgt. Ramiro Garcia with SAPD.

Sgt. Garcia said having that many witnesses in a murder investigation will be extremely helpful piecing together information.

"These VIA buses are also equipped with video so that will also be helpful as part of our investigation," he said.

VIA Police are helping SAPD with the investigation.
