Reward offered in 2013 stabbing death of woman

Victim's brother: Crystal Davis' 10-year-old son found mother's body

SAN ANTONIO – After his sister's stabbing death on Sept. 27, 2013, Al Davis said their family believed an arrest was only a matter of time.

"I bet this person's going to be caught like quick, just like everybody else's story on TV," Davis said.

But after 15 months and no arrests in the murder of 30-year-old Crystal Davis, her brother said he is relieved that San Antonio Crime Stoppers is now offering a $5,000 reward for anonymous information resulting in her killer's arrest and conviction.

Davis said he is hopeful someone will come forward for the sake of his now 11-year-old nephew.

"Just for him, I want to have some sort of closure," Davis said. "I'm pretty sure that crosses his mind a lot."

Davis said his nephew discovered his mother's body when he came home from school.

He said the boy's mother was not the first one in line to pick him up like she usually was, so his aunt dropped him off at his home in the 1600 block of Hedges, but waited outside as a precaution.

"When he came downstairs, he said, ‘My mom is upstairs. She's face down in blood,'" Davis said.

San Antonio police said Davis had been repeatedly stabbed during an apparent struggle at her home in the 1600 block of Hedges. Officers said there was no sign of forced entry.

He said it hurt him to hear his nephew's description of what he saw that day.

"For a little kid to explain how he found his mother dead is a lot," Davis said.

But he said the little boy, who received bereavement counseling, is beginning to heal  from the trauma.

"The little guy has really been a trooper," Davis said.

He said initially Davis' family speculated about possible suspects, even someone who drove up on the crime scene, shouting at officers.

Davis said police eventually tracked down the man.

"Whatever they talked to him about, it must have not connected to my sister's murder because they let him go," Davis said.

He said he's now appealing to the public for any new information, with help from Crime Stoppers.

"I know somebody knows something," Davis said. "What if that was your sister? What if that was your mother? What if that was your daughter?"

He said he's also hoping the killer will surrender.

"I can't imagine a person who would do something like this and forget about it,"

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP.
