Families learn healthy living at HEB Health and Wellness Expo

People fill convention center, learn how to live healthier

SAN ANTONIO – HEB's annual Health and Wellness Expo was bigger than ever this year as people learned ways to live a healthier life.

"(We are here) for the healthy food, healthy knowledge and making sure we get healthy inside our families," father of two, Luiz Lopez said.

Lopez takes his daughters to the health expo each year.

"The avocado. The avocado is my favorite," he said

He said the event is a great way to teach his kids how to be health-conscious.

Plus the entire expo cost nothing, something Lopez' older daughter Kassandra thought was a smart idea.

"It inspires more people to be healthy. Since it's free, more people want to come," she said.

She was right. Tons of people came to get important health screenings, sample lots of healthy foods, see cooking demonstrations and even win prizes. There were also plenty of other fitness activities to get people moving.

Those who needed inspiration stuck around for the finale of the Slimdown Showdown Competition.

"HEB employees and customers who have been on a 16-week journey to take ownership of their health and wellness. There are some big big transformations that have happened in the lives of these individuals," HEB Health and Wellness Manager Julie Bedingfield said.

It was a great example for other community members who are making health a focus in their own lives.
