Woman searches for answers after mother's death

Man charged in Terza Kline's death, daughter has questions

SAN ANTONIO – It was nearly a week before Jessica Jowers found out her mother died in a car crash on Interstate 37 over Hays Street on May 21.

They hadn't been in contact in the last year and a half, Jowers said.

"She was a drug addict. She was known to be a prostitute, (but) regardless, that was my mother," Jowers said of 48-year-old Terza Kline.

The driver of the SUV Kline was riding in, 26-year-old Rene Esparza, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection with Kline's death, but Jowers said she thinks that's just part of the story.

Jowers said her mother's death doesn't add up.

Police investigators said Kline was thrown from the vehicle. She had a broken neck, investigators said, but Jowers said she only saw one abrasion on her mother's stomach.

Jowers said she has also been asking investigators where she can find her mother's belongings -- such as her two dogs or family photos. She said so far, she has only recovered the purse and the few belongings Kline had with her when she died.

"I just kind of feel lost, because I feel like nobody really wants to help me," Jowers said.

Jowers said she hopes to hear from a man her mom knew well enough that she had his debit card tucked into her bra when she died.

"Somebody knows something. She was staying somewhere," Jowers said. "I'm not going to let it be chalked up as another statistic, (another) drug addict who was doing something she wasn't supposed to, and who cares if she's dead, because I care."
