2 bodies found in van parked at Autozone store

Discovery made in 6100 block of Old Pearsall Road

SAN ANTONIO – The bodies of two people were discovered inside a van parked at a Southwest Side auto parts store early Tuesday morning, San Antonio police said.

Police identified the victims as Louis Cesar Alaniz, 59, and San Juanita Alaniz, 53. The couple lived at the same address, police said.

The couple had 12 children between them.

One son said he and his siblings had no idea what had happened.

Several neighbors said they were shocked by the couple's deaths.

"I was just shocked. I seen (the children), it was in the morning when I saw them. They were fine, so last night they said that something happened to their dad and their mom," said neighbor Felix Landin.

Two employees at the AutoZone in the 6100 block of Old Pearsall Road flagged down an officer who was patrolling in the area around 10 p.m. Monday.

SAPD officials said employees were leaving the store when they noticed what appeared to be two people sleeping inside the van, which was parked in front of the business. The employees tried to wake the couple up but were unable to.

"They were not responding to them trying to wake them up. It appeared that they were asleep, so EMS was called by the officer. EMS made the scene and they were pronounced deceased," said San Antonio Police Officer Doug Greene.

San Antonio Police said there were no signs of a struggle inside the van. They were awaiting a ruling from the medical examiner's office on the cause of death and said the deaths could be due to suicide or homicide.

"It is somewhat mysterious that you find two people inside of a van, deceased, but there are no signs of any kind of trauma," Greene said.
