SAN ANTONIO – FUN FACTS:
- Actual name is Mission Senora de la Purisima Concepcion de Acuna
- Founded in 1731 and remains virtually unchanged
- Religious images and icons were created all over and can still be seen today
- Painted plasters or frescos can be seen throughout the design inside and outside of the mission
- The west wall was built with an ocular, or round window.
- Every year on August 15th the evening sunlight shines through the ocular and illuminates the tabernacle.
- The light arrays show the abilities of the Colonial architects to integrate solar equinoxes with major feast days.
