SAN ANTONIO –
FUN FACTS:
- Original name is Mission San Francisco de La Espada
- First founded as Mission San Francisco de los Tejas near Augusta, Texas, but was later moved to the San Antonio River Valley in 1731.
- The Espada Acequia has run continuously since at least 1745.
- The Espada Dam is located about 2 miles north of the mission and diverts water from the San Antonio River to the acequia.
- 25 miles south of the mission lies the original Espada ranchlands including a compound at the mission ranch called Rancho de las Cabras.
