It's World Emoji Day!

Bacon, avocado, cowboy may be added in 2016

SAN ANTONIO – When words just aren't enough, emoji! And because there's a day for everything, it's time to celebrate the little images today -- World Emoji Day!

The (hopefully legit) website Emojipedia says emoji means picture letter in Japanese. Perhaps more meaningful: the site also explains what the emojis mean.

Looking for a little emoji history? This Wall Street Journal article says the emoji was created by Shigetaka Kurita for the world's first mobile Internet system in February 1999.

Now, the images are more than just symbols. They can be the only means of communication for some.

If you've found the emoji keyboard on your smart phone to hold you back from fully expressing yourself, hang in there! Yahoo! says there are more emojis coming in June 2016. On the list:
