SAN ANTONIO – A man was shot and killed while walking on the city's South Side early Friday afternoon.
Police said Raul Herrera, 29, was walking in the 900 block of West Formosa Street when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire.
"From what it looks like by the evidence on scene, someone in that vehicle shot the man several times. He died here at the scene," San Antonio police Sgt. Javier Salazar said.
A witness said she was outside when she heard eight to 10 shots. She went inside to call 911 and came back outside to find paramedics trying to save the man's life.
The witness, who did not want to be identified, said she didn't notice anything suspicious before the shooting.
"I sure didn't. (There was) no arguing, no fighting. Just gunshots," she said.
Police believe Herrera was walking alone before he was shot.
"It looks like he may have been (alone). If there was anybody else nearby or anybody with him, we would like to know about that as soon as possible," Salazar said.
Salazar said the shooting appeared to have been a targeted attack.
"We're not thinking this was a random thing. There very well may have been some sort of relationship between the suspect and the victim," Salazar said. "We just don't know for sure."
Anyone with information related to the shooting is asked to call the SAPD Homicide Division at 210-207-7635.
