Round Rock, Texas – During an emergency hearing at the headquarters of the University Interscholastic League Wednesday, officials supported the Northside Independent School district's decision to not suspend the rest of the football season for John Jay High School.
Jay High School (1-1) will play Friday, Sept. 11 at home versus Del Rio (2-1) in their first game since the player-referee incident in which two student athletes targeted an official during last Friday's loss at Marble Falls.

The committee Wednesday heard from NISD superintendent Brian Woods and NISD executive director of Athletics Stanley Laing. The pair told the committee about their decision and their plans to further investigate the incident.
NISD plans to conduct a disciplinary hearing for the students and treat the incident as an assault on a school official. Assistant coach Mack Breed has been placed on administrative leave by the district while the investigation continues. The two players have been suspended from school for three days and from the team until further notice, and the district is in the process of filing an official report with the Texas Association of Sports Officials regarding allegations of racial slurs.
According to the district, the students involved allege that the official used a racial slur toward them and a Jay High School assistant coach made comments that could have led the students to make improper contact with the official.
