County Judge Sherman Krause lifted the ban Saturday morning. It had been in place since August.

According to Comal County Fire Marshal Kory Klabunde, the Keetch-Byram Drought Index has dropped to 283, well below the county's 500 threshold for a burn ban. Every 100 points is equal to one inch of dry-soil depth.

"The KBDI is expected to stay below 500 for at least the next two weeks,” Klabunde said, “but we continue to encourage residents to be cautious when they’re burning outdoors.”

Although county restrictions are no longer in place, residents are expected to continue following burn restrictions set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Those restrictions can be found on the Comal County fire marshal’s website.
