GM Financial breaks ground in San Antonio

New facility to house 700 jobs

SAN ANTONIO – General Motors Financial broke ground Monday morning on a new facility on the far West Side.

The new 100,000-square-foot facility, at 3302 N. Ellison Drive next to Christus Santa Rosa Westover Hills, will be home to 700 jobs in the near future. That’s great news for the area’s City Council representative, Ray Lopez.

“In this quadrant, we have over a billion dollars’ worth of work going on right now in road construction,” Lopez said.

Gov. Greg Abbott attended Monday's ceremony. He applauded Bexar County and San Antonio leaders for making the project happen.

“We are so very proud of what San Antonio and what Bexar County is doing to expand economic diversification in the state of Texas,” Abbott said.

Based in Fort Worth, GM Financial's parent company is General Motors. GM Financial’s CEO Dan Berce said the company already has a credit center in the Alamo City that employs about 60 people, so the project is an expansion. Berce said the company chose the Alamo City because of the workforce, time zone and incentives offered at the city, county and state level.

Construction on the nearly 14 acres of land is expected to last about a year. The new facility should open by spring 2017. Those interested in jobs should keep an eye out on the company’s career website. Recruitment should begin in the coming months.

The total economic benefit is estimated at $300 million within the first 10 years of operations.
