2 weekend arrests tied to Wilson County burning body

Alejandro Marroquin, Christopher Kine face charges

SAN ANTONIO – Alejandro Marroquin, 33, and Christopher Kine, 36, face charges stemming from a case that involved the murder of a woman whose body was set on fire and left along a Wilson County road May 11.

Marroquin was arrested Friday on a murder charge. An arrest warrant affidavit said that his wallet and driver's license were found near the body, on County Road 202 south of Poth.

The body has since been identified as that of Jessica Edens, 25. The affidavit said that a witness told sheriff’s detectives that Edens was last seen alive inside a home in the 1400 block of Delgado Street in San Antonio.

The witness reported seeing Edens go into another room of the home, then hearing her scream, the affidavit said. That person told investigators Marroquin and others at the residence later loaded Edens’ bloody and lifeless body into a car and drove to Calaveras Lake in an attempt to dispose of it.

According to the affidavit, the group was unable to dig a hole to bury it there. Instead, they drove to Wilson County and disposed of the body on the side of a road, setting it on fire, the affidavit said.

Investigators said at one point, the group drove to a pawn shop and sold some of Edens’ jewelry.

San Antonio firefighters and arson investigators later found a 2005 Volvo on fire in the 2500 block of Perez Street on San Antonio’s West Side. The vehicle was registered to Edens’ mother, the affidavit said.

It said that a witness later came forward identifying Kine as the person who poured lighter fluid on the car and set it on fire. The affidavit said that the vehicle had become stuck in the mud.

Kine was arrested Friday at his home, in the 1400 block of Delgado, the same home where investigators believe Edens was murdered. So far, he is charged only with arson.

However, Wilson County Sheriff Joe Tackitt said a murder charge will be added. Additionally, he said at least two other people will be arrested and charged with murder.
