The reports came in just before 10 p.m. Saturday.

Several officers inside the building said they heard gunshots hitting the building. Meanwhile, people inside the Bexar County Sheriff's dispatch center reported hearing gunshots.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said police did find several shell casings in an alley near the old Public Safety Headquarters and a restaurant.

A KSAT Photojournalist was rolling when police found at least two of the shell casings.

Just after midnight, McManus said the bomb squad was "checking out" an unoccupied car near the building they believe might be connected to the shooting Saturday night.

The chief said the move was out of an abundance of caution.

One person seen running from the scene was detained, but police would not say if he was a suspect. They did release a general description of a suspect they are looking for. Police are looking for a man seen running from the area in an orange shirt and navy blue pants.

Police have taped off a large area in front of the building.

The San Antonio Police Department is located at 315 South Santa Rosa. Several streets nearby were closed while officers investigated.

Reporter Alec Schreck said there was a helicopter over the scene.

The shooting comes days after a gunman ambushed Dallas police officers, killing five and wounding several more.
