SAN ANTONIO – Chuck Paul, a former Child Protective Services special investigator, says the Alamo City is a major human trafficking hub.
"According to the National Hotline the human trafficking, 25 percent of all victims pass through San Antonio because of the I-10 corridor," said Paul.
The trafficking victims are between the ages of 12 and 14 years old.
"They'll go to the mall in the middle of the day when children are supposed to be in school. They'll go to the River Walk at night and try to see who's hanging out there,” Paul said. “They sit across the street from juvenile detention centers, juvenile courts."
The majority are children in the foster care system who have been abused or come from broken homes, according to Paul.
"It doesn't mean they were trafficked by their foster parents. It means that they would run away or have gone missing from their foster placement," Paul said.
Paul has dedicated his life to saving and protecting these victims but now wants others to join the fight.
"If they see something, say something. Don't be afraid to call the police. Don't be afraid to call CPS. Don't be afraid to say, ‘I think something’s happening and I need to report it,’" Paul said.
